2022 The Sixth NTD International Piano Competition Winners

The 6th NTD International Piano Competition (NIPC) was held at the Merkin Concert Hall in New York City. Pianists from over 20 countries across four continents met in united calling to revive the glory of classical music. Thirteen made it to the semi-finals, and six advanced as finalists.

Gold Winner: Antonii Baryshevskyi (Ukraine)

Antonii Baryshevskyi is a prominent Ukrainian pianist and prize-winner of numerous international piano contests, some of which include the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition, “Premio Jaen”, and F. Busoni International Piano Competition. He studied and graduated from the National Music Academy of Ukraine and École Normale de Musique de Paris.

Mr. Baryshevskyi has performed in venues such as the Wigmore Hall (London), Konzerthaus (Berlin), the Berliner Philharmonie, Kolner Philharmonie, Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), and Concert hall of the Mariinsky theatre. He has given performances in nearly all European countries, as well as Israel, Japan, South Korea, and the USA. He has been a guest at renowned festivals such as Progetto Martha Argerich, Klavier Ruhr festival, Busoni Festival, projects by Musica Insieme Fondazione, among many others.

Mr. Baryshevskyi is a soloist of the National Philharmonie of Ukraine. He gives master classes as a regular member of the International Summer Academy of Music in Ochsenhausen, Germany. He has performed with some of the greatest European orchestras including Munich Radio Orchestra, The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini. He has many records on his credit, including a release by Naxos, among others. He has made radio and TV productions of the Italian, Danish, Spanish, and German Radio-Television agencies.

Silver Winner & Best Rendition Award of The Commissioned Composition: Jiusi Zhang (China)

Jiusi Zhang is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree at Oberlin Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of maestro Prof. Dang Thai Son. He began taking private piano lessons in his hometown Langfang at the age of four and studied at Canada Langfang Secondary school from 2017 to 2020. He won 2nd prize at the 8th National Steinway Youth Piano Competition in China and was chosen as the winner of the 2022 PianoTexas International Piano Festival Concerto Competition, which brought him the opportunity to perform with the great Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Zhang has taken masterclasses with some of the greatest musicians, including Jerome Lowenthal, Matti Raekallio, William Grant-Nabore, Tamas Ungar, Ewa Poblocka, Anne-Marie McDermott, Douglas Humphreys, Stanislav Ioudenitch, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Fabio Bidini, etc. He was most recently admitted as one of 24 pianists to participate in the PianoTexas International Piano Festival and also the Rebecca Pennys Piano Festival, both under full scholarship.

Bronze Winner: Evangeliya Delizonas – Khukhua (Russia)

Born into a family of musicians, Evangeliya Delizonas discovered piano at the early age of three. In 1998, she entered the Moscow Central Music School of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory as a student of Professor Tamara Koloss.

Since 2010 she has studied at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory with Professor Ludmila Roschina, where she finished her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Piano Performance. In 2017 she got her two-year postgraduate degree, a highly respected achievement.

Ms. Delizonas received a full-tuition scholarship at the International Center for Music at Park University and in 2020 pursued a Graduate Certificate in Piano Performance under Van Cliburn Gold Medalist Stanislav Ioudenitch.

Since 2021, Ms. Delizonas is pursuing a DMA in Piano Performance at the USC Thornton School of Music with Professor Stewart Gordon.

Outstanding Performance: Aruth Masrangsan (Thailand)

During his performances, the young Thai pianist Aruth Masrangsan, winner of the 1st prize and Grand Prize of the Piano Island Competition, demonstrates himself to possess strong artistry of the widest range. He started his musical education when he was 13 years old, eventually beginning the Pre-College program of Mahidol University at the age of 15, where he was a student of Dr. Eri Nakagawa.

Mr. Masrangsan has taken piano lessons from Prof. Rolf-Dieter Arens during the time of his studies. In 2017, he was awarded a merit scholarship and went onto studies at the prestigious Royal College of Music with Prof. Dina Parakhina.

In September 2019, he became a student of Prof. Denys Proshayev at Koninklijk Conservatorium, the Hague. He was recently awarded a Scholarship from Adriana Jacoba Fonds in 2021.

Outstanding Performance: Yung-Yi Chen (Taiwan)

Yung-Yi Chen was found to have a great interest in classical music at the young age of three. He was quickly discovered to have exceptional musical talent of a great sense of pitch, photographic memory on piano music scores, and an ability to play melodies only heard. At the age of seven, at his graduation ceremony of the Taiwan’s Chinese Culture University Associated Kindergarten, Mr. Chen played a great classical suite musically from memory, granting the reputation of “music prodigy” from the master. Professor and Pianist Virginia Shiao from the National Taiwan University of Arts incidentally attended the ceremony and noticed his talent, later accepting him as her youngest private student.

Mr. Chen has performed at numerous concert halls and music festivals, earning himself the most profound and rich stage experiences. Just a small few of his performances include the performance hall of the Chinese Culture University, Colburn School of Music, Dendrinos Chapel in Interlochen Arts Academy, the Taipei Steinway Center and various festivals including the Colburn Music Academy Piano Festival where he performed alongside Lang Lang at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

In September 2014, Mr. Chen entered The Interlochen Arts Academy and studied under the famous pianist, Dr. Michael Coonrod. In 2018, he was accepted by six major conservatories in the US, including NEC, Peabody, San Francisco, Cleveland, Mannes and Manhattan. He went on to study at the Mannes School of Music under Prof. Pavlina Dokovska where he received a Bachelor’s degree in 2022. Mr. Chen continues his studies today toward a Master degree in the same institution.

Outstanding Performance: Trinity Goff (US)

Trinity Goff began her piano studies at the young age of three, giving her first public performance at the age of four. She was a top prize winner in the National Steinway Competition, the Oregon Mozart Players Concerto Competition, the Wiscarson Young Musicians’ Concerto Competition, the Donna and David Eason State Scholarship Competition, and the Gibbens Family Scholarship Competition.

In 2020, she won the Van Buren Concerto Competition and performed Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with principal members of the Oregon Symphony and Oregon Ballet Theatre Orchestras in the fall of 2021. She has been a winner in numerous OMTA State Festivals, and in 2017 passed with distinction of the highest level of OMTA Syllabus.

In 2018, 2019, and 2021, she attended the John Perry Academy of Music Summer Festival. Trinity is currently studying with Jean-David Coen of Willamette University, and has also had masterclasses and lessons from renowned teachers John Perry, Janina Fialkowska, Yoshikazu Nagai, and Daniel Shapiro, among others. Besides her love for music, she enjoys writing, reading, and spending time with her family.
